Most horse places mean Clermont or Ocala. We are a small family farm just down the street from Foundation Academy, minutes from Horizon West, Windermere, and Orchard Hills.
Your child's first lesson
Thirty minutes, one child, one gentle pony and one patient instructor. Here is exactly what happens.
1. Meet and brush their pony.
We match your child to a pony that fits them, and they start with a brush in their hand.
2. Learn to lead and talk to them.
Walking a pony on a lead is where the confidence starts. At 3, this is the whole lesson, and that is the point.
3. Ride with a patient instructor.
When they are ready, they get on and walk. Nobody is rushed.
4. Leave knowing if riding is the fit. You will know by the smile in the car.
1. Try it. One lesson, one pony, $60. If they light up, you will know.
2. Pick your rhythm. Ride now and then at $100 a lesson, or claim a weekly slot with a membership from $297 a month, about $69 a lesson.
3. Watch them grow. A day that is theirs every week, and a kid who counts down to it.
Using a Florida scholarship (Step Up, PEP, FES-UA)? You get an itemized receipt for every lesson.
Month to month, no long contract. Cancel any time with 30 days' notice from your account or by emailing info@terangastables.com. $45 annual registration fee. Founding rates through December 31, 2026, and founding members keep their rate for as long as they stay. Standard rates start January 1, 2027.
QUESTIONS FAMILIES ASK
What if we miss a lesson?
Let us know at least 24 hours ahead and your child gets one make-up lesson that month, booked into any open slot within 30 days. Lessons missed without notice are not made up.
What happens in rain or extreme heat?
If we cancel for lightning, heat, or wet footing, we text you and your child gets a free make-up lesson on top of any other make-up. We make the call the day of, because weather here changes by the hour.
Can we pause for vacation?
Once a year you can put the membership on hold for up to two weeks with a week's notice. No charge for the hold, and your slot is kept.
Do we need a First Pony Lesson first?
We recommend it. Take the $60 First Pony Lesson, then join whenever your child is ready. Join within 7 days of that first lesson with code FIRSTRIDE and we waive the $45 registration fee.
Is there a contract to sign?
Yes, a short membership agreement and the standard riding release, both signed online before the first lesson.
Will my child have a favorite pony?
We match your child to a pony and instructor for each lesson based on how they are riding that day. Most kids end up with a favorite, and we lean into that when we can.
What should my child wear?
Long pants and closed-toe shoes. Sneakers are fine for a first lesson. We provide the helmet. Bring water.
Can parents watch?
Yes. A parent or another adult stays on the property for the whole lesson, and you are welcome to watch every minute.
What if my child is afraid at first?
That is normal, and it is why the first lesson starts on the ground. Brushing and leading come first. Nobody is put on a pony before they are ready, and some kids do not ride until the second visit. That still counts as a great first lesson.
How much are pony lessons in Winter Garden?
A First Pony Lesson is $60 for 30 minutes. After that, a private 45-minute lesson is $100, or a weekly membership starts at $297 a month, about $69 a lesson.
What age can children start?
We take riders from age 3. At 3 the lesson is groundwork, brushing and leading, and riding comes as they are ready. Most children are riding at a walk by 5 or 6.
Is the arena covered?
Not yet. Lessons are outdoors in our arena, which is why we watch the weather closely and make the call the day of.
Where do we park?
Come in through the gate, drive down, and park. If GPS stops at a neighbor's house, keep going to the Teranga sign.

The place kids get brave
Teranga Stables is a family-owned pony riding school in Winter Garden, Florida. We offer private riding lessons for children ages 3 to 9. First lessons are 30 minutes and cost $60. No prior riding experience is required, and helmets are provided. Families come from Horizon West, Windermere, Oakland, Hamlin and Orchard Hills.
Five quiet acres in Winter Garden, an arena where the lessons happen, and instructors with 25 years of experience who know how to earn a nervous child's trust in the first ten minutes and how to stretch a bold one. Your child starts with private lessons. As they grow, the riding grows with them. Our head instructor has over 25 years of experience on three continents, and our two main instructors are fluent in both English and French.
